How to Solder Two Wires Together

This is a tutorial on How to Solder two wires together using a soldering iron.

Materials Needed:

  • Two Pieces of Wire

Tools Needed:

  • Soldering Iron
  • Solder
  • Wires Strippers
  • Helping Hands
  • Electrical Tape

Soldering Process:

Step 1: Plug in your soldering iron, to heat it up to temperature.

Step 2: Strip 1/4″ of insulation of the end of each wire using the wire strippers.

Step 3: Twist the ends of your wires, if your wires are multi-stranded.

Step 4: Clip one wire in the helping hands or get someone to hold your wire.

Step 5: Place a bit of solder on top of the wire and then heat it up using the soldering iron and melt the solder all over the tip of the exposed wire.

Step 6: Lift the soldering iron of the wire and wait for this wire to cool, then repeat the process with the other wire to coat it with solder as well.

Step 7: Clip one of the wires in the helping hands or get someone to hold the wire again.

Step 8: Place the tip of one wire right beside the other wire and using the soldering iron melt the solder that’s on both wires together. Once the solder is malleable it will combine on both wires.

Step 9: After your wires are combined, remove the soldering iron but keep holding the wires together for 3-5 seconds. Once this is done the wires are connected.

Step 10: Cut a piece of electrical tape and wrap the connection to make sure none of the conducting wire is exposed. Another option is to use a piece of shrink tube to insulate the wire using a heat gun.

Step 11: Don’t forget to unplug your soldering iron, as it will stay hot until unplugged.
