How to Build an Overhead Camera Mount

This is my step by step guide on How to Build an Overhead Camera Mount.

Materials Needed:

  • 5 Pieces of 1×4″ by 8′ long lumber
  • 16 pieces of 6 x 1-1/4″ wood screws for side support walls
  • 4 Pieces of 8 x 1-1/4″ wood screws for back and top support beams
  • 1 GoPro Camera mount

Tools Needed:

  • Miter Saw
  • Tape Measure and Pencil
  • Robinson Head Screwdriver
  • Power Drill
  • 1/16″ Drill bit
  • 1/4″ Drill bit for counter sinking

Building Process:

Step 1: Cut the following pieces of wood:

  • 3 Pieces of 1×4″ at 47-3/4″ long
  • 4 pieces of 1×4″ at 28″ long
  • 4 pieces of 1×4″ at 23″ long

Step 2: On the 28″ pieces of lumber pre-drill the holes where the wood screws will go and counter sink with a bigger drill bit.

Step 3: Assemble the boxes together using two 28″ and two 23″ pieces of lumber with 2 wood screws at each end. The 23″ pieces of lumber go at the top and bottom and the longer 28″ pieces of lumber go on the sides.

Step 4: Screw the back and top support beam to the support walls with 1 screw on each end. The reason why I only suggest 1 screw for the back and top support beams is that it will be easier to disassemble this jig if you are currently not using it.

Step 5: Attach the Gopro mount to moveable top front beam.

Step 6: Attach your Camera and your ready to go.
